lucadelladora – Sony is preparing its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VIII, with a major design shift compared to previous models. Early leaks suggest that the company will move away from its traditional design language.
A protective case manufacturer reportedly sourced and shared these images on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. These renders offer an early look at the Xperia 1 VIII’s design. However, no official source has confirmed the authenticity of these images.
According to the leak, Sony may replace its long-standing pill-shaped camera module with a square design. The company is expected to equip the new module with three camera lenses along with an LED flash. The presence of the “Zeiss T*” branding indicates that Sony continues its collaboration with the German optics manufacturer.
The front design also appears to undergo significant changes. Sony may remove the wide top and bottom bezels seen in earlier Xperia models. Instead, the company could introduce a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera.
This change would also mean the removal of front-facing stereo speakers. Sony has traditionally included these speakers in its flagship lineup. Their absence suggests a shift toward a more modern display design.
21:9 Display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and 200 MP Telephoto Camera Rumored
The Xperia 1 VIII is expected to feature a 21:9 aspect ratio display. This change marks a shift from the 19.5:9 ratio used in the previous Xperia 1 VII model. The wider format may enhance media consumption and multitasking experiences.
Despite the design changes, Sony is likely to retain some familiar hardware features. The company is expected to keep a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top of the device. It also places the USB-C port and SIM card slot at the bottom, consistent with earlier designs.
Sony also includes a dedicated camera shutter button on the right side of the device. This feature has long defined Xperia smartphones. Its inclusion shows that Sony continues to prioritize photography-focused functionality.
In terms of performance, the Xperia 1 VIII is rumored to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. It places the smartphone among the top-tier offerings in the market.
With leaks pointing to a 200 MP telephoto sensor. This upgrade would significantly enhance zoom and image quality capabilities. Combined with Zeiss optics, the system could further improve long-range photography performance.
