The biggest shift comes in the camera department. Xiaomi replaces the original 108 MP + 8 MP ultra-wide setup with a single 50 MP primary sensor. This camera is believed to be the Light Hunter 400, commonly used in mid-range devices. However, the trade-off is the removal of the ultra-wide lens, leaving only an auxiliary sensor alongside it.
On the front, the device retains the same 20 MP selfie camera. While not an upgrade, it maintains consistency with the existing model. Overall, Xiaomi appears to prioritize efficiency and cost balance over versatility in photography.
Another key upgrade is the battery. The Special Edition adopts a larger 5,800 mAh battery, matching the Chinese variant of the Redmi Note 15 5G. This increase should translate into improved battery life for everyday use.
The design also gets a refresh with a new “Crimson Reserve” finish. This joins existing color options like Carbon Black and Frosted White. The new look helps distinguish the Special Edition from the standard model.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and AMOLED Display Remain as Core Features
Despite the changes, several core specifications remain unchanged. The phone continues to feature a 6.77-inch AMOLED display. This ensures vibrant visuals and a premium feel within the mid-range segment.
Performance is handled by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset. This processor is designed for balanced performance and efficiency. It is suitable for daily tasks, multitasking, and moderate gaming.
The Redmi Note 15 5G Special Edition is available in multiple configurations. The base model with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage starts at INR 19,999 (~$215). Higher variants with 8 GB RAM are priced at INR 21,999 (~$235) and INR 23,999 (~$255).

Pre-orders in India begin on April 7. Xiaomi has not yet confirmed whether this Special Edition will launch globally. As a result, its availability outside India remains uncertain for now.
Meanwhile, with a larger battery and revised camera setup, the Special Edition offers a slightly different value proposition. It trades camera versatility for endurance and streamlined hardware. Therefore, for buyers prioritizing battery life, this could be the more appealing option. In addition, competitive pricing may further strengthen its appeal in budget-focused markets.
