lucadelladora – AMD is gearing up to release the Zen 7 “Grimlock” Halo APU. A powerhouse designed to succeed the Zen 6 “Medusa” Halo APU. This new APU is expected to set new performance standards for laptops, particularly in the realm of integrated graphics. Leaked information from Moore’s Law Is Dead (MLID) has given us a sneak peek into the upcoming Zen 7 APU’s capabilities. Hinting that its RDNA 5/5.5 iGPU could rival mid-range desktop graphics cards.

The Zen 7 Grimlock Halo APU is likely to feature a significant upgrade in its integrated graphics. According to MLID, the iGPU in the Zen 7 could match or even surpass the 48 Compute Units (CUs) of the Zen 6 Medusa Halo iGPU. While previous reports suggested that the Zen 6 Medusa Halo could include 48 CUs. The Grimlock Halo might push that number higher, with a potential peak of 64 CUs.

These enhancements suggest that the Zen 7 Grimlock Halo could deliver an impressive leap in performance, potentially offering 20 to 35% better performance than its predecessor. Although exact figures are not available yet. This increase could make the iGPU of the Grimlock Halo APU a serious contender against powerful desktop GPUs. Especially in terms of power efficiency and raw graphical performance.

RDNA 5 iGPU Could Outperform the RTX 5070 in Laptop Form Factor

One of the most exciting aspects of the Zen 7 Grimlock Halo APU is its potential to challenge desktop GPUs. Such as the RTX 5070, in terms of performance. MLID previously indicated that the RDNA 5 “AT3” desktop GPU could fall between the performance of the RTX 4070 and RX 9070. With the Zen 7 Grimlock Halo APU expected to offer 20-35% more performance than the Zen 6 Medusa Halo iGPU. The new iGPU might end up surpassing the RTX 5070’s desktop performance in certain applications.

To put this into perspective, the RTX 5070 is roughly 28% faster than the RTX 4070. By that logic, if the Zen 7 Grimlock Halo APU’s iGPU outperforms the Zen 6 Medusa Halo by 20 to 35%. It could potentially exceed the performance of the RTX 5070, a GPU aimed at mid-range desktop systems.

However, it’s important to note that these claims are based on early leaks and theoretical projections. As the final specifications of the Zen 7 Grimlock Halo iGPU are yet to be confirmed, these numbers should be taken with caution. Nonetheless, the possibility of a laptop APU outperforming a powerful desktop GPU is an exciting prospect, and it could shift how we view integrated graphics in the future.

Looking forward, the Zen 7 Grimlock Halo APU could reshape the laptop gaming and content creation landscape. With a boost in performance, efficiency, and graphics power, it promises to deliver a competitive edge in portable computing.
